NoneJustice Shekhar Kumar Yadav of the Allahabad High Court on Sunday said that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) refers to a common law that applies to all religious communities in personal matters such as marriage, inheritance, divorce, adoption etc. He also said it aims to replace various personal laws that currently govern personal matters within different religious communities. Uniform Civil Code based on the principles of equality, justice and secularism has been a matter of debate in India for a long time, he added. Justice Yadav was speaking at the provincial convention of Vishwa Hindu Parishad ’s Law Cell (Kashi Province) in the Library Hall of the High Court Bar. Justice Yadav said that the main objective of the Uniform Civil Code is to promote social harmony, gender equality and secularism by eliminating unequal legal systems based on different religions and communities. The aim of this code is to ensure uniformity of laws not only among communities but also within a community, he said. At the inaugural session of the VHP workshop held in four sessions, the chief guest Abhishek Atrey, National Co-convener of Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Law Cell, said on the subject of Waqf Amendment Act that Bangladesh looks like another Kashmir. “We all have to remain united to protect our identity,” he said. In his presidential address, AK Sand, a lawyer said that the Waqf Board has taken over land of various organisations in large numbers. VHP law cell regional convener Brijendra Singh spoke on the formation of the VHP Law Cell and presented the outline of the workshop. Senior Advocate and former president of Allahabad High Court Bar Association VP Srivastava shared his views on ‘Religious conversion: reasons and prevention’. VHP (Kashi Province) Law Cell convener Arvind Kumar Mishra welcomed and thanked the guests.6 Cheaper Alternatives To The BMW X3

How Hoda Kotb Proved Ex Joel Schiffman Is Still Part of Her FamilyNearly 100 former senior U.S. diplomats and intelligence and national security officials have urged Senate leaders to schedule closed-door hearings to allow for a full review of the government's files on former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard , Donald Trump's pick to be national intelligence director. The former officials, who served in both Democratic and Republican administrations, said they were "alarmed" by the choice of Gabbard to oversee all 18 U.S. intelligence agencies. They said her past actions "call into question her ability to deliver unbiased intelligence briefings to the President, Congress, and to the entire national security apparatus." A spokesperson for Gabbard on the Trump transition team on Thursday denounced the appeal as an "unfounded" and "partisan" attack. Among those who signed the letter were former Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, former NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller, former national security adviser Anthony Lake, and numerous retired ambassadors and high-ranking military officers. They wrote to current Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and incoming Republican Majority Leader John Thune on Wednesday to urge the closed briefings as part of the Senate's review of Trump's top appointments. They urged that Senate committees "consider in closed sessions all information available to the U.S. government when considering Ms. Gabbard's qualifications to manage our country's intelligence agencies, and more importantly, the protection of our intelligence sources and methods." The letter singles out Gabbard's 2017 meetings in Syria with President Bashar Assad, who is supported by Russian, Iranian and Iranian-allied forces in a now 13-year war against Syrian opposition forces seeking his overthrow. The U.S., which cut relations with Assad's government and imposed sanctions over his conduct of the war, maintains about 900 troops in opposition-controlled northeast Syria, saying they are needed to block a resurgence of extremist groups. Gabbard, a Democratic member of Congress from Hawaii at the time of her Syria trip, drew heavy criticism for her meetings with a U.S. adversary and brutal leader. As the letter notes, her statements on the wars in the Middle East and Ukraine have aligned with Russian talking points, diverging from U.S. positions and policy. Gabbard, throughout her political career, has urged the U.S. to limit military engagement abroad other than combatting Islamic extremist groups. She has defended the Syria trip by saying it is necessary to engage with U.S. enemies. In postings on social media earlier this year, she confirmed that the U.S. had for a time placed her "on a secret terror watch list" as a "potential domestic terror threat." She blamed political retaliation. Neither she nor U.S. authorities have publicly detailed the circumstances involved. Alexa Henning, a spokesperson for Gabbard with the Trump team, called the letter sent to the Senate leaders "a perfect example" of why Trump chose Gabbard for this position. "These unfounded attacks are from the same geniuses who have blood on their hands from decades of faulty 'intelligence,'" and use classified government information as a "partisan weapon to smear and imply things about their political enemy," Henning said. A spokesperson for Thune did not immediately respond to questions about the request.

Luigi Mangione , the 26-year-old accused of shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson , made a fashion statement in court today with his maroon sweater, causing a stir on social media. Observers are drawing comparisons to the Menendez brothers' trial , speculating whether Mangione's attire is a deliberate nod or a media tactic focusing on his appearance. Despite serious charges, Mangione has garnered public sympathy recently. He entered a not-guilty plea and is set for trial on February 21. SNL blasted for 'shameful' moment when audience cheers for Luigi Mangione Luigi Mangione and Sean 'Diddy' Comb's lawyers share unexpected connection Mangione's defense may be playing up his image as a sophisticated, well-educated man from a wealthy background. The buzz around his sartorial choice, including a tweet from @voyagerdescend saying "NOT THE MENENDEZ SWEATER???" indicates that every move by Mangione might be carefully calculated. While some observers draw parallels to the Menendez case, others are not as persuaded, though they agree that Mangione's legal team is capitalizing on the media hype, particularly regarding his appearance. @Jeazous commented: "They gave bro a total makeover to impress the girls." @RedditEchoChmbr chimed in with: "I don't support what he did but this guy has balls. Mobile phone companies say they will further review service pricesMeta platforms' chief legal officer sells $538,475 in stockAfter closing the books on a banner year for US stocks, investors expect to ride seasonal momentum into mid-January when a slew of economic data and a transition of power in Washington could send markets moving. The S&P 500 rose almost 27% in 2024 through Dec. 26, while the technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite index, which surpassed 20,000 for the first time in December, is up 33.4%. November through January is traditionally a strong period in the market, said Michael Rosen, chief investment officer at Angeles Investments. Additionally, stocks tend to do well in the last five trading days of December and into the first two days of January, a phenomenon dubbed the Santa Claus rally, which has driven S&P gains of an average of 1.3% since 1969, according to the Stock Trader's Almanac. For the last four trading sessions, the S&P rose 2.91%, while the Nasdaq is up 3.3%, lifting hopes for a repeat. "The underlying data suggests that that's likely to continue," Rosen said. Just how long that momentum lasts will depend on several forces that could help drive markets in 2025. Monthly US employment data on Jan. 10 should give investors a fresh view into the health and strength of the US economy. Job growth rebounded in November following hurricane- and strike-related setbacks earlier in the year. The market's strength will be tested again shortly after, when US companies start reporting fourth-quarter earnings. Investors anticipate a 10.6% earnings per share growth in 2025, versus a 12.16% expected rise in 2024, according to LSEG data, although excitement over President-elect Donald Trump's policies is expected to boost the outlook for some sectors, like banks, energy and crypto. "There's the hope that taxes and regulations will be lowered or reduced next year, that will help support corporate profits, which are what drive the market in the first place," said Rosen. Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20 could also throw the markets some curve balls. He is expected to release at least 25 executive orders in his first day on a range of issues from immigration to energy and crypto policy. Trump has also threatened tariffs on goods from China and levies on products from both Mexico and Canada, as well as to crack down on immigration, creating costs that companies could ultimately pass on to consumers. Helen Given, associate director of trading at Monex USA, said a new administration always brings with it a large degree of uncertainty. There is also a good chance the impact of the Trump administration's expected trade policies is far from fully priced into global currency markets, she added. "We're looking ahead to see which of those proposed policies actually are enacted, which might be further down the pipeline," Given said, adding she expected a big impact on the euro, Mexican peso, the Canadian dollar, and the Chinese yuan. The conclusion of the Federal Reserve's first monetary policy meeting of the year in late January could also present a challenge to the US stocks rally. Stocks tumbled on December 18 when the Fed implemented its third interest-rate cut for the year and signalled fewer cuts in 2025 because of an uncertain inflation outlook, disappointing investors who had expected lower rates to boost corporate profits and valuations. Still, that could be good for alternative assets like cryptocurrencies. The incoming crypto-friendly Trump administration is adding to a number of catalysts that are boosting crypto investors' confidence, said Damon Polistina, head of research at investment platform Eaglebrook Advisors. Bitcoin surged above $107,000 this month on hopes of friendlier Trump policies. "Crypto is viewed broadly as a kind of risk on assets. So, any Fed cutting rates is a positive... Any positive economic data in early January will help maintain the momentum that we're seeing," Polistina added.

Rutgers tries to avoid another Ivy loss when Columbia visitsPol will serve as caucus chairman during the four-month legislative session that begins in January and manage the almost daily legislative strategy meetings of the 10 Democrats serving in the 50-member Indiana Senate. It's the first caucus leadership post for a Northwest Indiana lawmaker since now-Gary Mayor Eddie Melton served as assistant leader for the Senate Democrats during the 2023 General Assembly. But Pol and state Sen. Andrea Hunley, D-Indianapolis, the current assistant leader, already are at odds with Senate Democratic Leader Greg Taylor, D-Indianapolis, and were among four caucus members to vote Monday against reelecting Taylor as leader. Their opposition to Taylor stems in part from an Indianapolis Star article published prior to Monday's vote detailing three instances of sexual harassment allegedly committed by Taylor against two legislative staffers and one intern between 2009 and 2016. Pol and Hunley said in a joint statement Taylor must be held accountable for his actions and vowed to enact changes to ensure such behavior is not minimized or condoned. "It is unacceptable for anyone to experience harassment or exploitation; it is especially egregious when it involves those in a position of public trust," they said. "Things only change when people of courage come into power and that is why we stepped up. We promise to fight our way in to repair and to rebuild your trust, and as assistant leader and caucus chair, that is what we are going to do." Taylor did not respond directly to the allegations in his Organization Day address to the Senate Tuesday. But he said Senate Democrats next year will be focused on "the protections of Hoosiers across the state of Indiana." "We have a Constitution that says everyone has a right to defend themselves against anything. But, we must also recognize, while we all have the power and the influence to take care of things that some of the people out there cannot, we have to recognize that we are here primarily for them. And when we speak from this very powerful microphone that we have to recognize that when we fall short, we owe a debt to them," Taylor said. "I will continue to fight for those who think they don't have a voice and my actions will be my statement." In addition to Pol, two other Northwest Indiana lawmakers are members of the Senate Democratic caucus: four-term state Sen. Lonnie Randolph, D-East Chicago; and new state Sen. Mark Spencer, D-Gary.
